Reflection of Life God’s Gift - Michael Chike Izuogu Jones\n\nHe Arrived: Michael Chike Izuogu Jones was born of royal lineage on August 31, 1990, as a bubbly bundle of love to Michael Izuogu and Gwendolyn Williams. He was God’s gift to many people in many parts of the world for so many special reasons. His uncle, Kevin Williams, especially had that special love and bond that was unwavering throughout Michael’s life. On November 9, 1996, when Edwin A. Jones united in marriage to Gwendolyn, Michael was unconditionally embraced as Edwin’s loving son.\n\nHe Believed: Michael was a faithful believer; he received the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist at St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Church. He was a devoted member of the Children’s Gospel Choir and always on time for weekly rehearsals and 9 a.m. Sunday mass. Along with his family, he joined Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church where he later received the Sacrament of Confirmation and was a student in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) classes.\n\nHe Learned: Michael was cultured early in life as a toddler under the firm, yet loving care of Christine Clifford (Ma Mickie) who played an integral role in his childhood development as well as throughout his adulthood. He attended Community Child Development Center where he met his lifelong friend El’Jay Johnson. His elementary education was completed at The Capitol Hill Cluster Schools at Peabody and Watkins campuses and at Our Lady Queen of Peace. His middle and high school days were spent at The Katherine Thomas School from which he graduated as a proud member of the class of 2009. While there, he worked on the yearbook committee, played on the basketball team and represented the senior class on the student government association. He enjoyed listening to music, hanging out and having fun with his friends. Thereafter Michael attended Montgomery College where he was well known and loved for his sense of humor and cultivating friendships.\n\nHe Lived: Michael was a dedicated member of the Boy Scouts of America Troop 336 at Varick Memorial AME Zion Church under the scoutmaster leadership of Mr. Johnson and Mr. Blackwell. Every year he looked forward to going to the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Summer Camp and once even caught and kissed a crab without sustaining any injuries! He was a proud alumnus of the Marion Barry Youth Leadership Institute (MBYLI) working many summers and during the school year. He continued to check in, support and encourage the program directors and his friends from the Leadership Institute. In addition to his academic pursuits at Montgomery College, Michael delighted in modeling for the PH.U.N clothing line.\n\nAs a young adult, Michael enrolled in supportive employment and community living skills programs at the PSI organization where he learned many valuable life skills, made many friends, enjoyed numerous celebrations and earned many program completion certificates. He always looked forward to dining out and weekend movie dates with his friends. At PSI, Michael found a place where he could be his authentic self while continuing to hone his skills and abilities.\n\nHe Loved: Michael loved every Washington DC Sports team, especially the Washington Football Team and the Wizards. He never missed watching their games. Actually, he enjoyed watching all sports, favorite TV shows, comedy shows and movies with his family and friends. These times were reserved and considered sacred. He loved family gatherings, celebrations, and a good party. And because of the pandemic, he spent even more quality time with his loved ones whether virtually, by social media, text messaging, laughing, talking, just catching-up, playing games, listening to music, watching his favorite shows and laughing some more.\n\nHe Inspired: Michael will be cherished in memory by his devoted, dedicated parents: Edwin and Gwendolyn Jones and Michael and Rosemarie Izuogu; loving sisters and brother: Eden and Mickayla Jones, Angel and Jewel Izuogu and Justice Izuogu; aunts: Lillian and Kimberly Jones, Yvonne Graham Lewis, Angela Curtis, Joy Thomas and Stella Akpuru; uncles: Wendell, Darryl and Kevin Williams, Thomas Jones III, Chukwuemeka, Gabriel, Stan, Jacob and Sonny Izuogu; first cousins: Paul Eric, Daymon and Darilyn Williams, April Cole, Carla Butler, Kristi Askew, Kamryn Jones, Danielle Curtis-Williams, Jessica Lofton-Williams, Destiny Glenn-Williams, Stella, Ijeoma, Nne Nne, Amarachi, Ogechi, Diamond, Golden, Nonso Michael, Joshua and Philip Izuogu, Alaezi, Sampson and Ikechukwu Akpuru; godly grandmothers: Christine Clifford, Dorothy Curtis and Mary Person; godparents: Annette Richards and Keith Richardson; godsisters: Tia Person, Anyra Perry, Allesia Ward, Arianna Richards and Joy Richardson; godbrothers: Tahj Lawrence, Aaron Richardson and Joshua Johnson; godsons: Bryson and Eli Johnson; best friend: El’Jay Johnson; earthly angels: Michael’s Prayer Warriors, Frances Bell, Stephanie Robinson, Janet Smith, Adana McPherson, Pam Henley, ShawnDya Simpson, Kimberly D.
