Marcus Elbert Little Obituary

Marcus Elbert Little, age 52, of the District of Columbia, was a beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend. He departed this life on November 13th, 2023, to live in the eternal presence of the Lord.

Marcus was born in Washington, D.C. on November 19th, 1970. He was the youngest of two sons born to the late William Jesse Little and Martha Lee Knight Shaw. Marcus lived a fruitful life and was preceded in death by his parents, and sibling, William J. Little, Jr (Billy).

As a young boy, Marcus attended and was baptized at Bible Way Church on October 7th, 1978, where his mother was a lifelong active member. He was a graduate of H.D. Woodson High School–Class of ‘89, where he excelled in academics, and was an active member of the school’s football team. Marcus attended The George Washington University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Business Finance, and completed his graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University, with a Master of Science in Real Estate.

Marcus began his professional career at Fannie Mae as one of the first David O. Maxwell Scholars. After a 14 year tenure, Marcus left Fannie Mae and advanced his career as a Realty Specialist at the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), where he remained for almost a decade. The continuous desire for improvement led Marcus to join the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a Space Management Specialist. In addition to his professional career, Marcus was also a successful real estate investor, supplying affordable housing to many veterans and disadvantaged families in the D.C. area.

During every stage of Marcus’ life, he gained loyal and life-long friends, primarily due to his genuine heart and giving spirit. Marc’s positive-attitude, fun-loving personality, sense of humor, love of life and laughter were contagious! He enjoyed spending quality time and catching up with his friends over the years. When asked how he was doing, his standard response was, “Excellent!”

A passionate music lover, avid foodie, and adventurous world traveler, Marcus visited many countries on several continents, from Egypt to South Africa, Spain to Switzerland, Croatia to Japan, Thailand, the Caribbean, and more. He reveled in his international travels, and specialty cruises, sharing photos and unique experiences along the way. Marcus enjoyed an active social life with friends across the country; ski trips in the winter to performances at outdoor venues in the summer, including Wolf Trap, Carter Barron and Fort Dupont Park-he loved to have a good time. Marc’s favorite artists included Gregory Porter, Jonathan Butler, neo-soul singers and classic Washington, D.C. GO GO. He also liked to laugh-it-up at comedy shows, dine at the finest restaurants, and attend events that spotlighted the latest culinary influencers.

Kind and compassionate, generous, and encouraging, dedicated, stubborn and extremely funny, Marcus was a mentor and true friend to so many. He was always there with a listening ear, and he held a special place in his heart for his aging relatives. Marcus visited and supported his family, and was there when they needed an advocate.

Marcus is survived by two aunts, Mattie Little and Dorthy Little of Mount Vernon, New York; two nephews William J. Little, III (Jay) and Joshua Little of Washington, D.C., and a host of relatives and extended family. Marc also left to cherish his memory numerous friends who loved him dearly and will treasure fond memories of him forever. He was taken from us too soon.
