Juan Marichal Burford, known to all as Juan, was born on September 7, 1962, in Washington, DC, and peacefully left us on July 1, 2025. Juan was a charismatic and courageous soul whose dedication to his family, profession, and community was truly unparalleled. A retired police officer from the Metropolitan Police Department, Juan served his community with honor and distinction for nearly three decades before his retirement in 2020. His bravery and selflessness earned him the Metropolitan Police Department's Employee Commendation in 2007 and the Silver Medal for Valor in 1994. Juan's love for his job was only surpassed by the love he held for his family and his innate ability to bring joy and laughter into any room he entered.
Juan was a loving husband to Glennette Clark, whom he married on October 5, 1996. He was a dedicated father to their children, Jillian and Jaren, and a beloved brother to Jean Otu. He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Sally Burford, and his sister, Lisa Burford-Hardmon. Juan's vibrant spirit, timeless stories, and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Juan had a special place in his heart for sports, particularly baseball. His passion as a pitcher and infielder in the Ponce de Leon League was a testament to his belief in the power of teamwork and the excitement of the game. This love for sports also extended to his fervent support for the Washington Wizards, Nationals, Commanders, and the Boston Celtics.
In the words of St. Paul to the Philippians, a verse that resonates with Juan's life, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7) Juan's life was a testament to this verse, as he lived his life with courage, dedication, and love.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, at 9:00 am EDT at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at the same venue at 11:00 p.m. EDT. Both services are under the direction of Ronald Taylor II Funeral Home.
We encourage those who knew Juan to leave memories and upload photos to the memorial page, as a tribute to a life lived with passion, dedication, and joy. Juan's legacy lives through the stories and memories we share, so let's keep his spirit alive by remembering the wonderful times we had with him.
