In Loving Memory of Joycelene
On January 13, 1949, in Washington, DC, Joycelene Cherry entered the world as
the first-born daughter of Curtis and Laurenteen Lloyd. A proud graduate of
Dunbar Senior High School’s Class of 1966, she built a meaningful career—first,
spending 15 dedicated years at the Department of the Interior, then continuing her
work in the private sector until retirement.
Joycelene’s faith was central to her life. As a member of Mount Rona Baptist
Church, she dedicated her time to the youth and dance ministries. She found joy in
fellowship, family vacations, and the simple moments spent with those she loved.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Maurice Cherry; her siblings—Mildred
Allen, Curtis Jr., Laurenteen Stewart (William), Jacqueline LloydDavis (Walter),
Helene LloydGarner (William), Matthew Lloyd (Kim), and Willie—and a host of
nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and
Laurenteen Lloyd; her brother, John Lloyd Sr.; and her nephew, John Lloyd Jr.
