Janice Marie Kittrell, affectionally known as "Baby" was born June 7, 1935, in La Grange, N.C., to the late Mamie Rebecca Hastens Harper and Charles Harper, Sr. She was the second of six children born to this union. While living in La Grange, Janice attended Moore's Chapel AME Zion Church and received her education at Frink High School.\n\nIn 1951, Janice moved from North Carolina to Washington, DC. In 1968, she began employment with the Department of Defense, Passport Division until retirement 42 years later.\n\nJanice was an active and faithful member of the Free Gospel Deliverance Temple in Coral Hills, MD, under the leadership of Apostle Ralph E. Green. She served as part of the Missionary Ministry in which she assisted the pastor in leading many souls to Christ. She was also a member of the Women's Prison Ministry and sang in the Senior Choir. Janice loved the Lord and loved giving Him praise and glory, daily.\n\nJanice departed this life on January 10, 2021. She was preceded in death by sons (Derek M. Kittrell and Thomas M. Anderson), daughter (Linda D. Young), brother (Charles Harper, Jr) and granddaughter (Yolanda R. Armstrong).\n\nJanice leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Cynthia M. Ball (Shedrick), Wanda L. Tann (Bobby), Sharon Atkinson, and one son, Tyrone A. Anderson (Ophelia); four sisters, Anna L Uzzell, Jacquelyn A. Koonce, Minnie C. Moore and Brenda A. Best: 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
