James Donald Mayfield, II

–

District Heights, Maryland

James Donald Mayfield II, 67, of Forestville, Maryland, was called to his final resting place on Monday, November 18, 2024.

The eldest of three children, Donald was born on December 15, 1957 in Greenville, South Carolina. He was the son of the late James Donald Mayfield Senior and Helen Griffin Mayfield.

Donald was educated in the Greenville County Public School System. He graduated from Southside High School in 1979 and went on to attend the Donaldson Career Center to pursue a trade.

After graduating High School, Donald worked for the Greenville Fire Department for several years. He was also employed by the Greenville County Public School System as a Bus Driver for a time.

At an early age, Donald joined New Salem Baptist Church. Later on in his life, he relocated to Maryland and worshipped at District Heights Church of Christ. During his attendance at District Heights CoC, he studied the Bible intently during Bible Study Classes and church service with his friend Carl. Shortly after, he felt the urge to rededicate his life to Christ and requested a Baptism this Summer.

Donald never met a stranger and always greeted people with a smile. He was always ready to lend a helping hand especially to those in his neighborhood. He was a welcomed addition to his neighborhood and most thought of him as family. He enjoyed walking, reading his Bible, watching action and western movies and anime cartoons. He also loved watching football games; his favorite football team is the Baltimore Ravens and he also cheered on the Washington Commanders. Donald will be remembered for his compassion and generosity, including being an organ donor.

Remaining to cherish Donald’s fond and loving memories are sister’s, Gwendolyn and Deborah Mayfield of the home; his daughter, Shenika Hewins of White Plains, MD, ;grandson, Jayden Lanier of White Plains, MD,; and a host other loving relatives and friends.
