Harold Devon McLean

1957 - 2025

Harold was born on May 31st, 1957 and passed away on February 16th, 2025 at the age of 67

Harold Devon McLean, affectionately known to some as “Big Mac” or “Mac”, born to Edna McLean and the late Milton McLean on May 31, 1957 in Raleigh, NC, as the second of 4 children and the only son. Harold attended elementary school there until the family relocated to Trenton, NJ where he continued his education. In 1975, Harold graduated from Morrisville High School, Morrisville, PA, where the family settled years before. A graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC, Harold graduated in 1981 with a BA degree in Sociology. Harold returned home to Morrisville and landed a job as a Field Representative with the New Jersey Department of the Public Advocate’s Division of Citizen Relations. Soon thereafter, he made the decision to join the U.S. Air Force, serving his country for 4 years as a Logistician, where he was deployed to Upper Heyford, England during his tour. He received 2 medals—one for Good Conduct and the other, a Commendation. He was honorably discharged in 1986, after which Harold made the nation’s capital his permanent home. He began working for the United States Postal Service and served for 16 years. His life consisted of over 20 years of combined experience in the postal service, military, government, and the business industry. Harold enjoyed the simple pleasures life had to offer. “Chef Mac” developed a knack for barbecuing and cooking. He could put a “hurtin” on some barbecue ribs! Cube steak seasoned well and added servings of broccoli, corn, with a heavy dose of black pepper were his favorite. And don’t forget the pork chops…they were so good they made you smack your lips! “H-A-R-O-L-D” spells more than just a name. It is characteristic of the man Harold was: Humble…a gentle giant who stood 6’2” tall, the simplest things brought him the most joy. A dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan. Respectful of others. Optimistic…always tried to find a positive side of life. Loved to laugh, spend time with family and friends, playing basketball, and hanging out in the park. Devoted to his children and grandchildren…he thought the world of his son, daughter, and grandsons. On February 16, 2025, Harold was called to Glory. He leaves behind loved ones to cherish his life and memory: son, Devon Dixon (Loraine), daughter, Starr Tutt McLean, (Tavon), mother Edna McLean, sister, Milta McLean-Dennis (Vernon), sister, Mittie McLean, sister, Sonya Smalls (David), grandsons, Nathaniel Graham, Zion Dixon, and Tavon Johnson, Jr., a devoted friend in Jeannie Tutt, niece, Aunsara Dennis (Brittney), nephew, Vernon M. Dennis (Jordan), grand nephews, Chase Hogans and Vernon K. Dennis, and a host of cousins and friends.
