Florence Sherree Workman

On September 22, 2024 at 2:00pm, Florence Sherree Workman - Johnson born and raised in Washington, DC, passed away peacefully at age 59 after a brief illness. She attended Anacostia Senior High School before matriculating through life until meeting her fiance Danny Ray Johnson Sr. 35 years ago at a playground on 10th and G St NE. Together Florence and Danny Sr. parented five children (named in order) Lorenzo Allen Gray, Danielle Ruby Johnson, Rozine Sherree Johnson, Danny Ray Johnson Jr. Jazmine Odessa Johnson(deceased). Her Parents are Ruby Ray Workman and William Workman.

She cared deeply for her family and friends. She did this not out of obligation, but because of who she was. She was always the first to offer help. Florence ensured that every child who crossed her threshold was safe, healthy, and happy. Her infectious personality (and laugh) filled every room she entered, and made a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Anyone who knew her knew that she was a star in their eyes, and that’s all that ever mattered to her.

It would be wrong to say that Florence lost her battle, because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she approached everyday with the same joy and determination to get dressed and attack the day. When anyone else would have broken, Florence stayed strong. Through her, we know what resilience and perseverance truly look like. There was no quit in her. For the past 18 years along with her in her battle were her children Danielle, Rozine, Danny Jr., who along with their Father Danny Sr. served as her primary caregivers ensuring that she felt and knew she was loved everyday through their sacrifice. Though Florence’s health was failing for years, few people knew the extent to which she struggled. Her joy for life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through the pain. Just because she is no longer here, it doesn’t mean she lost her fight.

Florence joins her youngest daughter Jazmine Odessa Johnson in heaven.

She is survived by her Mother Ruby Ray Workman: father William Workman: Children, Lorenzo Gray, Danielle Johnson, Rozine Johnson, Danny Johnson Jr: Granddaughters, Ryliegh Gray and Malia Gray: Fiancé Danny Johnson Sr who was her best friend, right hand a partner for 35 years: Siblings, John Larry Workman (Temeka), Odessa Melissa Perry (Christopher), Phillip Paul Workman: Nieces, Zorita Workman, Zametria Froneberger and a great nephew Zyon Cooper and several friends and family members.
