The value of one’s life cannot be measured by longevity alone, but in one’s legacy and their\nimpact upon the lives of others.\nOn June 30, 2022 our Heavenly Father called Evelyn Lucille Sherrod home. Let us rejoice in her\nhome going.\nEvelyn was born March 17, 1941, in Halifax, North Carolina, to the late Harry and Elizabeth\nSherrod. Evelyn was the eleventh child of fourteen. Evelyn was educated in the North\nCarolina Public Schools. In June 1959 she relocated with her sister Annie, to the Washington\nDC area. Evelyn begin working as a Waitress at the Cosmo Club in Washington DC. On many\noccasions, Evelyn began as substitute teacher, for in the Washington DC school systems.\nIn June of 1990, Evelyn completed courses with a certification, as a Hospice Nurse Aide, with\nthe Hospice Homemaker Health Care Agency in Washington DC. Evelyn began her career as a\nHospice Homemaker, traveling all over the Washington DC area, where she had numerous\npatient’s to take care of, she knew almost every bus line in the Washington DC area until here\nretirement after 15 years.\nUpon relocating to the Washington DC area in 1959, Evelyn attended the Evangel Temple,\nwhere she committed her life to Christ. Evelyn sung in the choir, we’re she met lifelong\nfriends. Evelyn later became a member of Calvary Christian Church, where she was the\nDirector of Mother’s in The Kingdom, a member of the Trustee Board, a Usher and a member\nof the Praise & Worship Team and Head of the Communion Committee.\nEvelyn hobbies were; Cooking, Sewing, Shopping, Going to various restaurants, traveling,\nputting together puzzles, and baking those 3 layer chocolate cakes from Scratch and\nhomemade Yeast Rolls. Evelyn had a compassionate, and giving heart, whenever any of her\nbrothers had no place to stay, she always had a place for them to stay.\nEvelyn will continue to live in the hearts and minds of those who love her, and we will forever\ncherish the memories of her time with us. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory: four\ndaughter’s, Tracy Bryce(Dale), Heidi John(Levi), Matildia Sherrod and Tiffany Sherrod. 2 nieces\nshe raised, Sharon Gainey and Melissa Lewis(Gregory). 1 Granddaughter Erika Bryce, and 1\nGreat Grandson Owen Barksdale. Evelyn was Mama to Victoria Broussard, Exavior Pinnix, and\nJustice Oliver. 1 Ride or Die Sister, Annie M. Green(Rev. Robert M. Green), 1 brother\nBenjamin Sherrod(Carolyn), 3 nieces that she considered her daughters, Phyllis Crockett,\nFrances Banks and Delores Wells. two special lifelong friends Clara Exum, Stacia Stevens, and a\nhost of relatives and friends.
