Evelyn L. Sherrod

The value of one’s life cannot be measured by longevity alone, but in one’s legacy and their
impact upon the lives of others.
On June 30, 2022 our Heavenly Father called Evelyn Lucille Sherrod home. Let us rejoice in her
home going.
Evelyn was born March 17, 1941, in Halifax, North Carolina, to the late Harry and Elizabeth
Sherrod. Evelyn was the eleventh child of fourteen. Evelyn was educated in the North
Carolina Public Schools. In June 1959 she relocated with her sister Annie, to the Washington
DC area. Evelyn begin working as a Waitress at the Cosmo Club in Washington DC. On many
occasions, Evelyn began as substitute teacher, for in the Washington DC school systems.
In June of 1990, Evelyn completed courses with a certification, as a Hospice Nurse Aide, with
the Hospice Homemaker Health Care Agency in Washington DC. Evelyn began her career as a
Hospice Homemaker, traveling all over the Washington DC area, where she had numerous
patient’s to take care of, she knew almost every bus line in the Washington DC area until here
retirement after 15 years.
Upon relocating to the Washington DC area in 1959, Evelyn attended the Evangel Temple,
where she committed her life to Christ. Evelyn sung in the choir, we’re she met lifelong
friends. Evelyn later became a member of Calvary Christian Church, where she was the
Director of Mother’s in The Kingdom, a member of the Trustee Board, a Usher and a member
of the Praise & Worship Team and Head of the Communion Committee.
Evelyn hobbies were; Cooking, Sewing, Shopping, Going to various restaurants, traveling,
putting together puzzles, and baking those 3 layer chocolate cakes from Scratch and
homemade Yeast Rolls. Evelyn had a compassionate, and giving heart, whenever any of her
brothers had no place to stay, she always had a place for them to stay.
Evelyn will continue to live in the hearts and minds of those who love her, and we will forever
cherish the memories of her time with us. Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory: four
daughter’s, Tracy Bryce(Dale), Heidi John(Levi), Matildia Sherrod and Tiffany Sherrod. 2 nieces
she raised, Sharon Gainey and Melissa Lewis(Gregory). 1 Granddaughter Erika Bryce, and 1
Great Grandson Owen Barksdale. Evelyn was Mama to Victoria Broussard, Exavior Pinnix, and
Justice Oliver. 1 Ride or Die Sister, Annie M. Green(Rev. Robert M. Green), 1 brother
Benjamin Sherrod(Carolyn), 3 nieces that she considered her daughters, Phyllis Crockett,
Frances Banks and Delores Wells. two special lifelong friends Clara Exum, Stacia Stevens, and a
host of relatives and friends.
