Estelle Foster was born on January 6, 1946, to the late Evelyn and
Sam Foster. Estelle was called to be with the Lord on the afternoon of December 9,
2025, at the age of 79. At the time, she was with her grandson, Mike, whom she loved
dearly. Their bond was a testament to the deep love she held for her grandchildren,
each of whom she cherished with all her heart.
Estelle grew up in Cades, South Carolina. She was one of nine siblings, and she loved
her sisters and brothers very much. She attended Cades High School. She loved
basketball and she played throughout high school where she dominated the court, and
she loved to brag about her skills and defense. She would always say “Everything that
came off the rim was Mine!” She moved to Washington, DC after she graduated in
1964.
Estelle was a woman of unwavering strength and compassion. Her life was a testament
to the power of faith, family, and community. A lifelong member of Holy Name Catholic
Church, she was deeply rooted in her Catholic faith and served her parish with
dedication and joy. Whether organizing events, volunteering her time, or offering prayers
and comfort, she was a constant source of community and love.
Estelle’s greatest pride and joy were her son and grandchildren. She celebrated every
milestone, cheered every achievement, and stood by them through every challenge.
Her love was unconditional, and her support was boundless. She was their biggest fan,
always encouraging them to pursue their dreams and reminding them of their worth.
Estelle’s commitment to youth extended beyond her family. At Holy Name, she served
as both a track and basketball coach, mentoring countless young athletes with love,
discipline, and heart. She believed in the power of sports to build character and
community, and she poured her energy into helping others grow not just as athletes, but
as individuals. Her home was a haven of warmth, laughter, and wisdom. She welcomed
everyone with open arms and a generous spirit, always ready with a kind word, a home-
cooked meal, or a heartfelt prayer. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the
values she instilled.
Estelle loved sports. She was a loyal fan of Washington D.C.’s teams, especially the
Washington Commanders and Washington Wizards. She loved hand dancing, listening
to music, and singing. She also loved bowling. She was on a bowling team and even
has a custom bowling ball with her name engraved on it.
Estelle was a proud and hardworking woman who took immense pride in everything she
did. She dedicated over 30 years of service to George Washington Hospital, where she
retired as a respected supervisor. Even after retirement, she would fondly visit the
hospital and remind everyone, with a smile, “I used to work here!” Her work ethic and
leadership left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients. In addition to her
hospital career, Estelle also worked for many years at a local dry cleaner, where her
reliability and warmth made her a favorite among customers.
