With a heart filled with admiration and a spirit moved by her extraordinary life, we remember Dorothy Feimster King, a woman whose generosity knew no bounds and whose resilience was a beacon of strength for all who knew her. Dorothy AKA “Dot/Dottie", was born on September 05, 1943 in High Point, North Carolina to her parents Viola Feimster and Ellis Wilson (both deceased). Dorothy passed away on Sunday August 13, 2023 at the age of 79. Dorothy was the oldest of ten in which five sibling deaths preceded hers, Lavada Bellot, Janice Tanksley, Leola Jones, Darlene Tomlin; stepbrothers, Reverent Clement Crawford and Elbert Miller; daughter, Debora Ann Collins; stepson, Anthony King.
Dorothy graduated from William Penn High School located in High Point, NC in 1962. Dorothy retired from the banking industry in 1990 and began working for IIT Research Institute in Lanham, Maryland where she eventually retired a second time due to health reasons.
Dorothy met deceased Robert Allen King in 1979. They were married on February 11, 1981 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Together they raised Terry Collins, Anthony King, and Gina Marie Pryor. Dorothy was a very outgoing person, she loved big family/friend gatherings/cookouts because she loved her family and enjoyed cooking/ preparing big Thanksgiving dinners. She loved eating crabs for hours at a time and have only one beer. She also loved to sing so much; she became a long-standing member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church’s Chancellor Choir. She loved to be involved with organization such as the Order of the Eastern Star, a group that mirrored her own values of charity, truth, and loving kindness, as well as the usher board for the church. Fashion was one of her favorite pastimes, loved dressing up for a night out with her family, friends, formal events or merely for work. If there was one thing she enjoyed and could do all day without any complaints, that one thing would be DRINKING COFFEE (4 sugars and 2 creams)! She was a fixture for the Hallmark channel, kept her blonde hair flawlessly styled, never missed a nail appointment, and was known for her immaculate home. Dorothy was a God fearing, well loved, loving, kind, wise, fabulous, beautiful, elegant, giving, unselfish, upstanding, brave and resilient (a few amongst many) woman. As we come together to honor Dorothy's life, we remember her words, "Being a strong woman is not about physical strength, but about emotional resilience. It is about having the inner fortitude to stand up for what is right, to be true to oneself and to not let life's challenges get in the way of one's happiness."
We invite you to leave your memories of Dorothy and upload photos to her memorial page, to help us all remember this extraordinary woman who made a lasting impact on so many lives. As we share our memories, we keep Dorothy's generous, loving, resilient, and humble spirit alive.
