Oxon Hill, Maryland
Daniel Calhoun, Jr., a man who possessed an infectious sense of humor and unmatched wit, passed away just days before his 88th birthday. Born on October 20, 1938, in Talladega, AL, Daniel's journey of life took him from Alabama to New York, and eventually to his beloved home in Oxon Hill, Maryland. His remarkable intelligence and reliability made him a treasured friend, a cherished family member, and a respected professional in the banking industry.
Daniel was a man who truly understood the art of life. He was a dedicated manager in his professional life, retiring from Citibank and leaving a profound impact on the banking industry. His passion was not limited to his career; he was a member of The Impressionistics Lodge and loved playing cards and trying his luck at the slot machines. As Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "Life is a journey, not a destination," and Daniel lived his journey to the fullest, ensuring that business was always taken care of and that he was there to help anyone in need.
Daniel leaves behind an enduring legacy in the hearts of his family. His memory will be kept alive by his daughter Dru, son Floyd (Vanessa), granddaughters Ashley, Naomi, and Camille, his brother Kemp, sisters Olivia (J.C) and Joyce, great-grandchildren Arien and Amari, and many other family members and friends who were fortunate to know him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Sr. and Rosa Calhoun (Reynolds), and his loving wife, Julia.
We invite all who knew and loved Daniel to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. As we remember him, let us recall another quote that Daniel lived by, "The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well." Daniel did just that, and his life serves as a testament to his wit, intelligence, and unwavering reliability. His memory will continue to inspire all who knew him.
